Anne Grete Riise is a career diplomat, currently the Ambassador to Australia, covering also the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. Before coming to Australia, she held the position of Head of the Diplomatic Relations Branch at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Norway. She served two and half years as a senior adviser to the Prime Minister covering climate change, energy, and security policy.
Anne Grete has contributed significantly to European affairs, particularly in Central Europe, as a Senior Adviser/Analyst. During the COVID-19 crisis, she served as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs liaison in the Ministry of Health. Her diplomatic journey includes notable roles in Warsaw, Vienna, Berlin, and Kiev. Anne Grete holds a M.Phil in political science (Cand.Polit.) from the University of Oslo.
