Daniel Giles

Daniel’s story is a classic ‘boots-to-boardroom’ journey.
His career began on the tools in heavy-duty mechanical roles, working on ultra-class equipment across some of Australia’s most iconic operations—from the Argyle Diamond Mine and the Kalgoorlie Super Pit to the Pilbara and Cadia Valley. These foundational years in remote, high-consequence environments taught him a permanent lesson: for any system to succeed, it must first respect the reality of the people operating it.
Over a 30-year career, Daniel has transitioned from maintaining assets to designing the strategies and systems that govern them. Beyond his work in the mining sector, Daniel is a trusted advisor to the owners and directors of privately held manufacturing organisations. He has spent a decade helping these leaders transform their value streams and build high-performance cultures where technology is prevalent and continuous improvement is a daily habit rather than a corporate pet project.
Most recently, Daniel served as an Operating System Lead and Operational Excellence Auditor at BHP. In this role, he led a team of specialists to drive operational discipline through a culture of lean continuous improvement and independent cultural maturity audits used to benchmark industry best practices.
Today, as an Independent Director and Advisor, Daniel is a vocal advocate for the principle that automation should never be used to solve a process mess.
