Offshore energy decommissioning is a significant operational and financial challenge. Decommissioning of offshore oil and gas facilities in Australia is expected to cost in excess of AUD$61 billion over the next 50 years. A real opportunity exists for development of AI models to support the decommissioning process. Many of the most valuable machine-learning opportunities for decommissioning require large, diverse datasets that few single operators hold.
This session explores the opportunity for industry collaboration through shared data and AI. It examines how pooled datasets can enable more powerful machine learning models to improve worker safety, reduce environmental impacts and enable more efficient, cost-effective decommissioning. The session also considers the legal and governance frameworks to facilitate such collaboration. Practical insights on how industry and government can structure collaborative data and AI initiatives to appropriately manage risk while unlocking value and new opportunities.
