Australian experts to provide key insights at inaugural Africa Oil and Gas Forum

Mar 5, 2015

One of Australia’s most experienced African explorers has joined the programme for the inaugural Africa Oil and Gas Forum set to be staged in Perth on Tuesday March 10, 2015.

Pancontinental Oil and Gas, which was one of the early mover Australian oil and gas companies to take up an exploration position in Africa, is now the holder of one of the largest African acreage positions of any junior oil and gas company, globally.

The company’s Director, Ernie Myers, will provide Africa Oil and Gas Forum attendees with an update on Pancontinental’s exciting African portfolio, including the 2014 Sunbird-1 find, Kenya’s  first ever offshore oil discovery.

Myers will be joined in a session entitled “Projects, Investment Opportunities, Challenges and Best Practice” by Davd Rowbottam, Managing Director of fellow Australian junior WHL Energy, who will make a presentation entitled “Small Companies and Frontier Exploration Risks in Africa”, and provide an update on his company’s promising offshore Seychelles exploration project.

The morning session of the Forum will feature a number of leading government officials. Western Australia’s Minister for Commerce, Michael Mischin MLC, will open the event and he will be followed with keynote presentations from the Hon. Come Manirakiza, Minister for Energy and Mining in Burundi, H.E Molosiwa Selepen, Dean of the Africa Group of Ambassadors and High Commissioners in Canberra and Ms Rebekah Grindlay, the Director, Resources and Energy, Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Other presenters on the full day Forum programme include:

  • Ricardo Alves Silva, Partner, Miranda Correia Amendoeira & Associados with a presentation entitled, “Preparing for and participating in licensing rounds: What it takes to succeed in Africa”;
  • Ian Williams, Director, I R Williams and Associates, speaking on “Capital Attraction in Developing Economies with a focus on East Africa”;
  • John Wood, Global Industry Director Oil & Gas, Aurecon discussing “Industrial and Technological Updates”;
  • Professor Vishnu Pareek, Head of Department of Chemical Engineering, Curtin University; discussing “New Frontiers in Oil & Gas Research”

Building on the great success of the first East Africa Oil and Gas Conference Australia staged in Perth in late 2014, the Africa Oil and Gas Forum is an exciting addition to the world class annual Australasian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference (AOG), which officially opens on the day following the African Oil & Gas Forum
